Fake Rolex

Not all people who sound religious are really godly. They may refer to me as ‘Lord,’ but they still won’t enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they obey my Father in heaven. -Matthew 7:21 (NLT)

Like it or not, we live in a society that rewards superficiality. As far as horizontal relationships are concerned, appearance is what’s important. Someone’s life can be in ruins, but as long as their circle of acquaintances think they’re doing well, then that’s what really matters. As long as their facebook photos show them as happy and successful, they’re good. As if others’ perception is reality.

We’ve been so inundated with this type of thinking our whole lives that it’s hard to snap out of the lull and into reality. Perception is not reality, and it holds no sway with God.

A fake Rolex might impress many people, but to a jeweler it’s worth nothing.

Lord, help us today to be your true disciples. Help us to resist the mindset of superficiality. Guard our minds, Lord. Protect us from the world’s ways that lure us. Teach us true repentance. Help us to bring forth good fruit, for your glory. Amen.
