Giving Up Porn

In Awareness on September 7, 2011 by The Spillover

In Tim Chester’s book, Closing the Window; Steps to Living Porn Free he offers ammunition for those struggling with porn addiction. Look at the stats. Don’t kid yourself. A very large chunk of the Christian population (read: Calvary Baptist Church) has a problem with porn. It’s an addiction as strong as any other.

Here Chester offers 12 reasons why one should give up porn. Don’t let the brevity of the statements mute the profundity of their meanings:

  1. Porn wrecks your view of sex.
  2. Porn wrecks your view of women.
  3. Porn wrecks women’s view of themselves.
  4. The porn industry abuses women.
  5. Porn is a sin against your wife. . . . If you’re not yet married, porn is a sin against your future wife.
  6. Porn wrecks families.
  7. Porn is enslaving.
  8. Porn erodes your character.
  9. Porn wastes your time, energy, and money.
  10. Porn weakens your relationship with God.
  11. Porn weakens your service.
  12. God’s wrath is against people who use porn.
Along with this list is offered five “key ingredients” in one’s battle against porn addiction. If this is something you struggle with, I would strongly encourage that you meditate and pray about the list offered below. By God’s grace and in transparent fellowship with fellow Christians, you can overcome this addiction.
